Three UNIBEN Students Hospitalized After Building Collapse

Management of the University of Benin said three students rescued from the collapsed storey building are stable in the hospital.

A building in Ekosodin community, one of the neighborhoods close to the institution, where a large number of students reside, collapsed on Saturday afternoon after the storm began on Friday afternoon.

Giving an update on the incident, the management of the institution in a statement on Saturday in Benin said a combined team comprising officials of its security and fire service departments, health centre, students, and the police rescued the students.

The statement added that the rescued students were first rushed to the institution’s health center, after which two were taken to the University of Benin Teaching Hospital.

“The management wishes the affected students speedy recovery and commends the rescue team for their gallantry,” said a statement.

However, eyewitnesses said though nobody died, several kids sustained injuries in the sad tragedy.
