Time for Trump to Stop Doing Wrong Things – China

A spokesperson for the Chinese Foreign Ministry, Guo Jiakun, has called on the United States to “stop doing the wrong thing” in light of escalating trade tensions.

Jiakun’s remarks came after U.S. markets experienced a sharp decline following China’s announcement of a reciprocal 34 percent tariff on American goods.

“The market has spoken,” Jiakun said, adding, “Now is the time for the US to cease its wrongful actions and resolve its differences with trading partners through equal-footed consultation.” His comments were shared in English via a Facebook post, accompanied by an image illustrating the drop in U.S. markets on Friday.

In response to the rising tensions, several Chinese commerce associations representing key sectors such as healthcare, textiles, and electronics issued statements calling for unity in seeking alternative markets. They also warned that the tariffs could contribute to rising inflation within the United States.

Earlier in the week, former U.S. President Donald Trump announced an additional 34 percent tariff on Chinese goods, increasing the total tariffs imposed on China this year to 54 percent.

China reacted swiftly, unveiling its own set of retaliatory measures on Friday, which included 34 percent tariffs on all American goods and export restrictions on specific rare earth elements critical to U.S. manufacturing.
