President Bola Tinubu has appointed Shamsedeen Babatunde Ogunjimi as the Federation’s new Accountant General.
The appointment was made after a rigorous screening process, President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy Bayo Onanuga said.
“His appointment, approved today, takes effect from 7th March 2025, the same day the incumbent, Oluwatoyin Madehin, will retire,” Onanuga stated.
Ogunjimi, 57, was first appointed to replace Madehin in December.
A panel of selection made up of Federal Civil Service Directors of Accounts finally appointed him after a competitive, vigorous, and merit-based process. The committee divided the process into three phases: a written test, an ICT capability test, and oral interviews.

Ogunjimi earned a Bachelor of Science in Accounting degree from the University of Nigeria Nsukka in 1990. He also earned a master’s degree in accounting and finance from the University of Lagos.
He is a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria and the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria.
President Tinubu welcomed Ogunjimi to the Board and urged him to do his job with honesty, professionalism, and devotion to service in Nigeria.
