Troops of the Nigerian Army 3rd Division under Operation Safe Haven apprehended a notorious gunrunner and impounded weapons on the Bokkos-Bot-Mangu road in Plateau State’s Bokkos LGA.
This was revealed in a post by security analyst Zagazola Makama on Thursday.
The operation, the report said, was carried out following credible information of the movement of weapons and ammunitions in the area.
The suspect, Sengi David, 21, of Kopal Village in Panyam District of Mangu LGA, was arrested attempting to smuggle firearms around 10:30 a.m. Tuesday.
“He was found in possession of one AK-47 magazine with civil police markings and 48 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition,” the message added.
The suspect and the confiscated weapons are in police custody for interrogation, and other members of the gun-running syndicate have been placed on wanted lists, according to military authorities.
The Nigerian Army has reassured citizens that it will continue to pursue illegal arms proliferation and maintaining peace in Plateau and other areas under Operation Safe Haven.
