Troops Recover Weapons, Eliminate Two Terrorists in Taraba

Troops under the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army/Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) have taken out two suspected terrorists and seized various weapons during a clearance mission in Taraba State.

The mission, carried out on April 14, 2025, focused on bandits allegedly operating between Mayokan and Bondogri villages in Bali Local Government Area. Guided by solid intelligence, the soldiers moved in quickly and clashed with the suspects in intense fighting around Garbatau, Garin Hamidu, Bandaguri, and Mayokan villages.

A statement from Captain Olubodunde Oni, Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations for the 6 Brigade, confirmed that two of the terrorists were eliminated, while others escaped with bullet wounds.

Among the weapons recovered were one AK-47 rifle, one AK-47 magazine, four rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, a single-barrel dane gun, 27 arrows, and six cutlasses.

On the same day, a separate operation was carried out in Ibi Local Government Area, where troops swept through suspected hideouts near Yamiri Village in Sarkin Kudu Ward. Upon seeing the approaching troops, the criminals fled and abandoned their camp.

A search of the area uncovered a military-style woodland camouflage uniform and a Bible. Soldiers destroyed all the camps they found to ensure the area couldn’t be used by the criminals again.

Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, Commander of 6 Brigade Nigerian Army, praised the troops for their courage and emphasized the brigade’s commitment to continued operations aimed at securing peace throughout Taraba State.

He also encouraged locals to keep cooperating with the military by sharing accurate and timely information that could help rid the region of criminal threats.
