Trump Claims US Collecting $2B Daily from Tariffs

President Donald Trump of the United States stated on Tuesday that the country is collecting $2 billion per day from tariffs, though he did not provide specific details to support the claim.

Trump made the remark during an event at the White House, noting the revenue generated from tariffs as part of his administration’s ongoing trade measures.

However, according to the Treasury Department’s daily statement of deposits into and withdrawals from its general account—the federal government’s main operating account—Customs and Certain Excise Taxes deposits have averaged around $200 million per day so far this month.

For the entire month of February, the latest full month available, the Treasury netted approximately $7.25 billion in customs duties.

Trump added that the monthly budget statement for March will be released on Thursday, which will show the latest figures.

The comments come amid heightened scrutiny over the economic impacts of the administration’s sweeping tariff policies, particularly in light of the escalating trade tensions with China.
