US President Donald Trump has officially extended the national emergency and the corresponding sanctions targeting the Russian government for another year.
This extension was confirmed through a notice published in the US Federal Register, which reaffirmed the administration’s decision to maintain the emergency measures.
The notice stressed that the national emergency, initially declared on 15 April 2021, will remain in effect beyond 15 April 2025 due to the ongoing threats posed by Russia.
According to the statement, “The national emergency declared in Executive Order 14024… must continue in effect beyond April 15, 2025,” citing the “unusual and extraordinary threat” to US national security, foreign policy, and economy.
The original declaration was made under Executive Order 14024, issued in April 2021, in response to a range of activities attributed to the Russian government.
These include election interference, cyber-enabled attacks, transnational corruption, and repeated violations of international law.
Although Executive Order 14024 was signed by former US President Joe Biden, the current extension by President Trump reflects the continued stance of the US government on countering perceived threats from Moscow.
