On Wednesday, a catastrophic car crash in South Africa killed at least twelve schoolchildren.
Matome Chiloane, Gauteng Education Minister, confirmed this in a statement.
The youngsters died after the minibus transporting them to school flipped and caught fire after being hit by another vehicle in Johannesburg.
The driver of the minibus was also murdered, and seven other children were taken to the hospital.
The statement added, “A private scholar transport minibus was engaged in a sad accident in the Kokosi-Wedela district of Merafong, claiming the lives of 12 students and their driver.
“In addition, seven more students have been brought to a medical facility for immediate treatment.
“I am deeply saddened by the awful situation. The death of our youngsters is a heartbreaking blow to our community, and we send our thoughts and prayers to the families of the deceased and injured students.”
