Two suspected criminals notorious for robbing commercial tricycle (Keke) operators and their passengers on flyover bridges in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) have been apprehended by operatives of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN).
The arrest was confirmed by John Samuel, the VGN commander for the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), who identified the suspects as Muhammad Abubakar and Misbahu Abubakar.
“Our operatives caught them red-handed on Wednesday night at the Nyanya bridge after they had just stolen ₦20,000 from a tricycle operator,” Samuel told Abuja Metro.
He explained that the victim’s cries for help drew the attention of VGN operatives patrolling the area, prompting a swift response.
“We responded swiftly and managed to apprehend them before they could escape,” he said.
Samuel confirmed that the stolen ₦20,000 was recovered and returned to the tricycle operator.
“The suspects were later taken to our office in Nyanya for investigation and profiling before being handed over to the police for further action,” he stated.
This arrest marks a significant success in local efforts to curb rising petty crimes along key transportation routes in Abuja, particularly on flyover bridges, which have become hotspots for criminal activity.
The VGN urged residents and commercial drivers to remain vigilant and report suspicious behavior promptly to aid in ongoing security efforts.
