United States Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated on Thursday that the United States has still been providing foreign aid, although the United States Agency for International Development, or USAID, has suspended its projects under audit.
“I’m not against foreign aid. I’ve voted for foreign aid. We’re gonna do foreign aid.” “No one here is saying we’ll have zero, and some programs have already survived,” Rubio told Catherine Herridge in an interview for X.
Rubio did not have any regrets regarding USAID, stating that some ventures “shouldn’t have ever existed.”
The Trump administration is attempting to reshape the country’s foreign aid agency, and projects funded by USAID are under review.
US billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk, who heads the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), called the agency a “criminal organization” that “needs to die.”
Employees in USAID offices around the world have been placed on administrative leave, reports said.
The agency’s webpage, which housed previous financial reports, has been taken down.
