United States President Donald Trump has claimed that the US tariffs will not be fully reciprocal, as it would have been too difficult for most countries.
Trump made this claim while in the White House Rose Garden announcing his long-awaited, wide-ranging tariffs on imports as part of his “America First” policy.
He also stated other nations have “treated the US badly,” imposing higher-than-proportional tariffs on US imports, and likened this to “cheating.”
In his opinion, the US will tax other nations “about half” of what they are taxing the United States in return.
“So, the tariffs will not be totally reciprocal,” Trump stated.
I might have done that, yes, but it would have been challenging for most countries. We didn’t want to do that,” he said.
