Zelenskyy to Urge Trump for Sanctions, Weapons if Russia Violates Black Sea Deal

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has announced his intention to request U.S. President Donald Trump to impose sanctions on Russia and supply Ukraine with weapons if Russia breaches the recently established Black Sea agreement.

The announcement came after the U.S. government confirmed separate agreements had been secured with Ukraine and Russia, ensuring safe navigation in the Black Sea region. The agreements also include commitments to avoid attacking energy infrastructure.

According to a statement from the White House, the agreements involve mutual guarantees of safe passage, avoidance of force, and restrictions on the use of commercial vessels for military activities.

President Zelenskyy emphasized Ukraine’s commitment to the terms, adding that violations by Russia would prompt immediate calls for U.S. action.

“If the Russians violate this, then I have a direct question for President Trump,” Zelenskyy told reporters in Kyiv.

He continued, “If they violate it, here is the evidence – we ask for sanctions, we ask for weapons.”

Ukraine has been engaged in an ongoing conflict with Russia for more than three years, following Russia’s invasion in 2022, which has led to significant casualties.
