Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum, has confirmed the nomination of principal officers to the reconstituted Borno State Hajj Commission, pending the approval of the State House of Assembly.
The governor’s media aide, Malam Dauda Iliya, made this known in a statement released on Tuesday in Maiduguri.
Zulum nominated Alhaji Mohammed Mainok as Executive Chairman of the commission, Haruna Kukawa as Vice-Chairman, and Mohammed Ali Ahmed as Secretary.
Prior to their appointments, Mainok was the Borno State Pilgrims Welfare Board’s acting Executive Secretary, while Kukawa was a former member of the Borno State House of Assembly representing the Kukawa Constituency.
The governor also assented to the appointment of Alhaji Haruna Mari and Abatcha Umar as full-time members, with six others—Sheikh Abubakar Kyari, Khallifa Allamin Banki, Ahmed Abdulkadir, Sheikh Gambo Kyari, Hajja Safiya Ibrahim, and Alhaji Yusuf Ali—to act as part-time members.
The appointment, made in accordance with Sections 4(a), (b), (c), and 5 of the Borno State Hajj Commission Law 2024, is for four years and renewable for another four years.
Iliya added that the commission would be reporting to the Office of the Deputy Governor to provide effective oversight and coordination of activities.
The newly created commission will be responsible for monitoring and supervising Hajj activities for Borno State pilgrims.
