The Lagos State government announced the closure and diversion of traffic on Eko Bridge yesterday for reconstruction.
Transportation commissioner Oluwaseun Osiyemi said the diversion, which would last eight weeks, would start on September 26.
According to him, the diversion would be done in sections, and motorists will be advised to use alternative routes.
“Motorists coming to the Island through Funsho Williams Avenue are to make use of the service lane at Alaka to hook up to Costain and link up Eko Bridge to other destinations.
“Miworists going to the island are allowed to use Costain to link Eko Bridge, as well as link up Apongbon to their various destinations. Motorists can also use Apongbon to link up Costain via the Eko Bridge to continue their journey towards Funsho Williams Avenue,” he said.
Continuing, Osiyemi said, “Motorists can also make use of Costain to access Alaka/Funsho Williams Avenue, or take a detour from Costain along Apapa Road to Oyingbo and through Adekunle to the Third Mainland Bridge.
“In the same vein, Motorists going to Surulere are advised to make use of Costain to link Breweries inwards Abebe Village to connect Eric Moore/Bode Thomas to get to their destinations.”
He told them that there would be traffic supervisors on the spot so that hassles are reduced and a continuous flow of traffic is maintained.
