Ogun State Government Offers Support to Herbal Practitioners

Ogun State herbalists have been urged to start documenting in details herbal preparation applied to sicknesses that have defied medical solutions.

At the monthly meeting of the Leadership Alternate Medicine Practitioners in the state held in Abeokuta, Dr. Kafayat Lawal, Registrar and Executive Secretary of the State Alternate Medicine Board, OGAMB, appealed for corporation on herbal products.

According to Dr Lawal, one of the reasons for which the Board was established was to ensure that proper records were kept of genuine herbal medicines for future application. He also said that in the past, alternative medicine practitioners had obstructed the growth of the practice with their poor documentation.

Assuring that the government was willing to facilitate laboratory tests, clinical trials, approval of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control, NAFDAC, packaging as well as branding with proprietary rights, she said the board was ready to support practitioners who have any herbal solution that has been proven effective.

To this effect, the Chairman of the Traditional Healers Association, Toyin Ogatimirin, said that indeed, the association was indebted to the government as a result of various efforts made in standardising their practice across the state; he promised that the association would work in cooperation with the Board to achieve all of the objectives.

Speaking in an interview with journalists in Abeokuta, the National President of Ewedayepo Traditional Healers Association of Nigeria, Dr. Adesina Olugbemi praised the state government for the development it has brought into the improvement of alternative medicine within and outside the country and said that members of the Board would support and cooperate with the body.

Responding, Oba Ifarotimi Adifagbola, the Olu-Isese of Ogun State and founder of the Isese Kingdom of Truth and Traditional Worshippers, promised that members of the association would assist the Board so that the process would succeed in the state.
